Wasa Lake Renovation – Before After Exterior

The exterior is not done – the boys are working on soffit, venting, and fascia this week but I thought a bit of before after photos was in order. Have a peak – it is amazing what an exterior facelift can do to upgrade your property.

I am planning to post a summary of the full Scope of Work on this project so you can see where we are heading and I will get that up next week.

Please note Barnabas will be relocating to Kelowna, BC in the Spring on 2014 – but we will be servicing select out-of-town projects based on suitability in Calgary and other areas between Calgary and the West Coast.

Fence Season

A fence is such a huge factor in creating a back yard or front yard oasis. Both functional and beautiful it is almost necessary if you are living in an urban environment.

Gate - Multi Family Fence

This fence was built for a long time client and her two neighbors.

I highly recommend taking your time when hiring your builder – you might assume a fence is a fence but do a drive around and look at the variances and watch for poor quality – rotted posts, bleeding hardware, warped and uneven boards.

A fence is not just a fence!

Composite Deck & Endoresment

“We are extremely pleased with the workmanship and the fact that Barnabas could meet our timelines – our new deck looks awesome! For anyone who has a small project (that many other contractors might decline due to the size) Barnabas is the guy you want to have work for you – he was also good with giving us some suggestions when we were not sure about what materials to use; and used materials that we had on hand instead of buying new stuff. Thanks so much for the wonderful job you have done! Ann Tyrell ”

We built this deck for Ann in 2008. It was a smooth and fun project – ready just in time for the annual garden party. Composite is a nice option if you want a low maintenance product and if you like this look.

Kayu Batu is an excellent alternative to composite for a low maintenance deck but with a more natural wood look.

Siding Done – Wasa Lake Renovation

Barnabas got moving fast with the siding install after employing a young local fellow bringing the on site team up to three guys. With the tongue and groove siding only covering 3 inches per piece in height it was moving slow at first. I do believe it was worth the effort and additional labour as it looks great.

This was the pile in the start – finally all gone and the siding phase complete:

If you have a closer look you will notice the Soffit is also tongue and groove Cedar. These touches make a big impact!

Building For Fun – Heat For Homeless

Barnabas loves to get creative and inventive. He builds for fun and wonders always how he can give back.

While visiting with his family on the job site he came up with this wood stove made up of job site scraps.

The most impressive thing was the burn time and when it worked so well his first thought was homeless people. He wants to make these and give them to homeless people. I am sure liability would be an issue but wouldn’t it be awesome to give homeless people access to heat?

Wasa Lake Deck – Perfection

Those of you that have been following the Wasa Lake renovation might have caught the odd glimpse of the deck Barnabas built in 2012.

This lakeside property really suits the touch of a big and beautiful deck. I know because it was my favourite space to take in the sun during Fall job site visits.

I posted pictures of this deck at completion in 2012 but then it was snow-covered. Here are pictures I took in the Fall 2013.

With the full renovation taking place now and this amazing deck – this property is going to be the best spot on the lake just in time for the Summer of 2014.

The owners will finally be able to relax and take in the view which you can see is one fine view!

Kitchen Boxes In – Wasa Lake Renovation

The kitchen is simply starting to take shape. The carpenter had to do some major problem solving as per a substantially off square existing ceiling height which is going to make the crown moulding a challenging install.

Here is the progress as of Friday:

Kitchen A

I will continue to update but the boys have headed outside to get the tongue and groove siding on.
